Jennifer Elston Lafata, PhD, a health outcomes researcher at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, described her study involving a decision-support program administered through a patient portal to improve patient compliance with colon cancer screening recommendations. After reviewing missed opportunities, including patients who didn’t use the portal, Lafata shared one lesson learned: “Make sure your decision-support program is accessible and acceptable to all patients.”
